…And before you get all on telling me how this was terrible. Dude was a 18/17 over a significant enough sample who had limp-reraised me before. He never limps, if he does, its AA or KK(maybe QQ/AK). AK folds the flop unless it has a flush draw, and than is the least likely combo, imo. Turn check is absolutely the correct play versus that range.

Vegas in June, Portland this weekend

This weekend me and the lady are going to a concert in Portland. Should be good times. She is taking off Friday and we are going to make a long weekend out of it. The plan is to spend Friday and Saturday in Portland and then we are going to spend Sunday going out to the Oregon coast. Things have been pretty hectic for the both of us, so it’s going to be pretty awesome to just get some time to hang out in a stress-free, fun environment.

In June we are heading to Vegas for a long weekend. I plan on playing in some cash games for a little bit, but I’ll definitely be spending a good amount of time just hanging out and what have you. DC is having a meet-up the first night I’m there so I’m planning on heading out to that.

Poker has been interesting lately. I’m winning, but slowly. I’ve been making some changes to my game. Having just typed that I realize that every post includes me mentioning making some changes to my game. That’s good news as that means I’m constantly working at it instead of letting it be stagnant and thus decreasing.

That will be all for this time. Just a quick update.

So, it’s official. I’ve went and done it. I’ve moved to the West Coast.

I’ve been a little bit quiet the last few weeks as I’ve been packing up my stuff and what have you. I’m now in living in Seattle and planning on putting down some roots here. With this change of location has really came another change in attitude. It’s weird, but I suddenly am feeling very content and looking to move on to that “adult” phase of my life. I want to have my own house. I want to put nice things in it (as compared to Led Zeppelin posters on the wall) and make it my own. So, as part of all this I am (again) refocusing myself to poker. Things have been going well for me the last month and a half and I intend to do my best to keep that going. Hopefully in the next few years I’ll have saved up enough to purchase my own place.

Got a desk set up at my gf’s place in Seattle. We found a silly deal on a desk at Staples that was only like $20(ship it) and then a comfortable chair for $60 at IKEA. So now I’m set up pretty comfortable and that is a huge difference. Working at the kitchen table was not very comfortable so I started to work while laying in bed which is obviously not going to be good for concentration as well. Now that I have a desk and everything I think I’m pretty much set up for success.

I’ve been continuing to run and play well. I’m up a pretty solid amount this month and that’s pretty awesome considering how brutal things were in February/March/December. I’ve been working on my game a lot and I think I’ve made some pretty serious strides. I hope that my win-rate for 2010 continues as it has been. If it does it will be a record year!

I fly back to Indiana in two days. I am going to be staying there for two weeks and then I fly back again.

Hey guys… been a little bit since I’ve posted. I’ve been keeping pretty busy out here in Seattle. I’m still going to be out here another week and a half or so. Things have been pretty eventful.

I’ve managed to get about 10k hands in so far this month. That’s not an outstanding total, but it’s ok. It’s a lot more than I played in the last 6-8 weeks, so I’m happy with it. I feel like my poker playing is on the upswing. I think with each passing week I’ll start getting more and more hands in. This is becoming more and more of a big deal to me because I’m start to realize that the life goal of eventually owning my house is pretty exciting and something I REALLY want to happen. I’m starting to get to a point in my life where I want to find a place to put down some roots. I’ve spent the last 3 years or so moving all over the nation and the idea of setting up shop somewhere is pretty exciting. So… what better way to do that than to own a house? And by that I don’t mean owning a debt that is over-paying for a house. I’ve always maintained that I won’t take out a huge mortgage in order to get a house(unless the real estate market is down such that I can get a steal and I can put at least half down to begin with). It’s just a waste of money, imo, to take out a huge mortgage. So, I have to just keep grinding and get the roll put together to buy it with cash. I think that’s something I could manage in the next 5 years or so. However, if I really dig in and start kicking some ass at poker I should be able to get it done sooner than that.

I have a few videos that are coming out on DC this month. I just had one released a few days that is the first part of a HH replayer vid that will cover commitment from the basics to more advanced ideas. I think the first part is essential for any novice player. I think the 2nd part is pretty damn cool for any intermediate/advanced player. I end up getting into analyzing our range and talking about some Game Theory ideas. After that I plan on doing another two-part video that has to do with showing how to start a session and get on good tables. I think that should be a good video for a lot of players to see as I am forever noticing how bad most regs I play are at table selecting. (Sorry, guys… it’s true)

After I get back in town I plan to stay in town for a few weeks. One of my old friends is getting married on May 2nd and I’m in the wedding. Presumably there will be a bachelor party the weekend before so I plan to go to that as well. After that, though, I plan to go up to Chicago with the Poker House roommates. One of the roomies is heading up to Alaska and is flying out of Chicago. I’m using this is an opportunity to fly from Chicago to Seattle (no connections… HELL YEAH!) and to get some deep dish! This next time I’m just getting a one-way ticket to Seattle. I keep extending my stay and that is just silly. So… I might be out in Seattle for a while. WHO KNOWS?!?!

Hey guys… well I’m out of Indiana and spending some time in Seattle again. Things are going really well for me lately. Can’t complain.

I played a little bit of poker last week and won like 5BI in about 3k hands(flopping the nuts makes this game way easy). My birthday was this past weekend so I kept pretty busy hanging out with friends and what have you. I have probably like 10 people come over to the poker house and it was just an awesome time. Everybody was super cool and everyone I’ve spoken to after the party said they just had a great time. I have to admit that I am really fortunate dude in that I have a lot of really cool and really awesome friends.

I spent the next few days after the party to hang out with friends and family. I am staying in Seattle for a few weeks so I wanted to make sure I hung out with people while I still could.

I plan to keep really busy over the next few weeks. I’m working on putting together several videos for DeucesCracked.com and getting a lot of poker in. I about have my first video done which I am told should be out next Thursday (4-8). I still totally plan to get more into coaching and more involved with DC.

I’ll do my best to keep you posted about my time here.

An article I wrote recently(yes, that’s right… a brand spanking new one that doesn’t even appear on threads13.com! oh snap!) is in the March 2010 issue of Bluff Magazine. It’s an article talking about balancing (what it is, when to use it, and a specific example with some math). I think it’s a pretty interesting read and it looks pretty sick in the magazine. Taking a flight tonight… (rambling)

So tonight I get to take the red eye back home(woooo freakin’ hoo). It’s been a pretty awesome week and a half for me to say the least. I’ve been out in Seattle visiting a friend. During this time I haven’t really done much poker playing as a general game plan. It’s been a time to really just let go about thinking about the game so that I can recharge and just enjoy my time out here(which I’ve most certainly done). Most of my poker time over the time here has been spent on doing some videos for Deuces Cracked. I’ve been a part of quite a few of the videos of the FR Squadron series. It’s been a lot of fun to get to work with other coaches.

So… now it’s time to head back home. I honestly can’t say that I’m particularly excited about it though. Not to say there aren’t things I look forward to… that’s not the case at all. I haven’t seen my friends in a while so I definitely look forward to that. Also I’m pretty sure St. Patty’s day is this week, so I guess there’s that as well. But other than that… well let’s just say I really enjoy being out here. Seattle is an awesome city. I don’t really say this about a lot of cities, but it’s one that I could see myself putting down some roots in.

And on that note… putting down some roots is really something that I feel like I want to do with my life at this point in time. I mean… I’m not that old.. at all (I’m turning 26 this month) but I’m definitely hitting a point in my life, especially with all the moving around and things that I’ve done, where I want to kind of find a place that I’m going to spend the foreseeable future. I want to settle into that place soon… build my social network… and just be comfortable with where I’m at in my life. That’s a bit of a search for myself right now.

I’ve done some thinking about where I want to be/go professionally. I’ve come to the realization that, while I enjoy playing poker, I do want to put more of myself into coaching and making videos. I really do enjoy doing that. I like being able to help others. Also, I think the idea of playing poker 40 hours a week doesn’t really appeal to me THAT much(not that I ever actually reach that goal). I would like to split up my time a little more evenly such that I am playing poker about 15 hours a week and coaching/doing videos about 15 hours a week. Now, I haven’t really decided this to the point where I’m definitely going to start moving in this direction, but it’s definitely something that has more and more appeal to me. I think I’ll be pursuing those options a little more in the future and seeing where they take me. On that note… if you have read my blog and have considered working with me I’m probably going to be more and more available for coaching in the upcoming weeks so don’t be shy to get in touch with me.

New Article in Bluff?

Word on the street is that I have an article is this month’s (March ‘10) issue of Bluff Magazine. Unfortunately I am outta town and can’t check into this. I’m sure it’s probably true, but this also works as a cheap ploy to get people to go out and check out the magazine (do ploys still work if you tell the ploy-ee of it’s existence?) .

If you’ve been following the house blog then you know that I’ve been on a break from poker. I have been doing just a little bit of coaching, but I feel like I’m about to get back into the game again. I’ve been pretty damn bored with the game this year, but over the last few days I am getting progressively more and more excited to play.

I’ll chime back in with more later. As of right now I’m walking out the door.
