How’s your goals coming after week one?

Alright, so it’s been about a week into the new year let’s see how I’m doing.  Obviously we can really only take this so far, but let’s make sure we are off to a good start.  I’ll go through and grade them one by one.

  1. I’ve recently, through Tommy Angelo’s excellent series “The Eightfold Path to Poker Enlightenment” on DC, really started taking an interest in mediation and related studies.  I intend to make this a daily study.
  2. 700k hands.  I want to really log a lot of hands and make some cash this year.
  3. I’d like to play some $2/4 and potentially some $3/6 if things go well.
  4. I’d like to cut a little body fat off by getting back in shape and eating healthier.  I’ve gotten a little lax about this over the last few months.
  5. Continue working on tiltlessness.  This is both a poker goal and a life goal.
  6. Continue growing as a poker player.
  7. Be more organized.  I tend to let my living area get a little too crazy.  I want to put stuff into storage that doesn’t need to be out and just create more space.
  8. Continue placing emphasis on personal goals and enjoying each day.

1)  So far, so good.  I’ve been meditating every morning and I’m doing some brief meditation before the beginning of nearly every session.  I’m working on being more mindful and I definitely see a rather large change in my overall mood.  I’ve been very at peace, calm, and collected.  I haven’t been nearly as reactive which is pretty awesome.  Grade:  A

2)  Again, pretty good so far.  I’ve logged 8k hands this month and logged 3k just yesterday.  The trend is going the right direction.  Grade:  B

3)  Not much to say about this.  I’m close to being rolled for $2/4 though.  Grade:  N/A

4)  Meh.  I’ve been snowed in at my parent’s place for the past few days.  I got drunk and rocked the Taco Bell earlier this week.   I haven’t completely failed as I have been changing my eating habits but it’s been a pretty modest effort thus far.  Grade:  D

5)  I really think I’ve done about as well as I can in this area.  I’m really quite more aware of my emotions and thus I am able to control them.  Grade:  A

6)  Doing pretty well.  I’ve been playing well and making some more read based plays.  What’s crazy about poker is that it’s so hard to be playing your absolute best all the time.  There’s so many spots to nail that you just plain forget them and get into habits of skipping them.  My barreling game was a bit weak yesterday and the day before so I plan to get that going. Grade:  B

7)  Gradual I’m getting better at this, but it’s still lackluster.  My truck is still a disaster zone but it’s so damn cold outside I can’t hold that against myself too much.  Grade:  C

8 )  Wow.  Ya know… with all this emphasis on goals I think I have a way of losing sight of staying focused on goals.  I tend to still get caught up in results and not just staying the course and working on myself. Grade:  C

I’ve just started watching Tommy Angelo’s “Eightfold…” video on DC and I can see myself getting deeper into the mental side of poker.

Good luck with achieving your goals in 2010
